When MakeSpace needed a smarter way to manage their on-demand storage operations, we engineered a complete packaging system to replace an inefficient process. We designed, manufactured, kitted, and distributed custom reusable bags and welcome kits. This end-to-end solution reduced shipping costs, halted inventory loss, and lowered carbon emissions while providing a seamless, premium experience for the end user.
Challenge
MakeSpace required a highly efficient method for customers to pre-pack items before collection. Their previous approach relied on shipping empty, bulky plastic storage bins to homes. This method was expensive, created logistical bottlenecks, and led to significant inventory losses when bins were not returned. They needed a scalable, durable alternative that could streamline customer onboarding, reduce overhead, and eliminate the frustrations of managing rigid plastic inventory.

We utilized our comprehensive supply chain expertise to deliver an end-to-end packaging solution, managing everything from the initial sketch to final fulfillment.
Design & Manufacturing: We engineered the MakeSpace Reusable Carry Bag, a custom solution made from highly durable material featuring 40% recycled content. This bag is designed for two distinct functions: it can be used as a protective box liner and as a heavy-duty transport bag to move items safely from a home to a storage facility. The bags also fold completely flat, ensuring they take up minimal space before you begin packing.
Kitting & Assembly: We developed a cost-efficient welcome kit that served as an engaging brand touchpoint. Each kit included sets of 5 to 50 flat-packed bags, custom labeling stickers, and a branded marker. To help the operations team quickly differentiate between bag sizes, we color-coded the individual kits.
Warehousing & Distribution: We managed the inventory and distributed these fully assembled kits in extra-durable, custom-branded poly mailers. Using soft mailers instead of rigid boxes kept shipping costs as low as possible and ensured reliable, on-time delivery to customers. We also reduced waste by printing service instructions directly on the clear interior packing bags.
