Sustainable Packaging for Minimalist Luxury

Filippa K needed e-commerce packaging that delivered on three fronts: a premium tactile feel, reliable product protection, and fully recyclable materials with post-consumer content. Working with Filippa K’s in-house design team, Kargo provided technical design and engineering support to develop a cohesive collection using natural substrates and restrained branding. The result protects the product, simplifies returns, reduces shipping-related costs, and elevates the unboxing experience.

Filippa K Glassine and Natural Kraft Envelope

Filippa K is a Swedish fashion house renowned for its clean lines, thoughtfully sourced materials, and commitment to responsible production. With a new leadership team at the helm, the brand needed packaging that would reflect its values of quality and environmental integrity at every touchpoint.

In 2022, Filippa K joined forces with Kargo to develop a new packaging system. Working closely with Filippa K's in-house design team, Kargo led the Technical Design & Engineering process while overseeing Product Development, Production, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management to successfully bring the project to market.

Challenge

Traditional luxury packaging typically uses virgin paperboard, heavy ink, laminated finishes, and single-use construction. For Filippa K, none of these were viable options.

The brief called for materials that could deliver a premium tactile experience while meeting strict environmental standards, including post-consumer waste content and full recyclability. Custom sizing across the product range was also a must. And cost efficiency couldn't be overlooked: the solution needed to perform at a luxury level without the high material and production costs that usually come with it.

Solution

Kargo managed the entire project from concept to delivery, aligned with Filippa K's rebrand launch. We worked closely with their in-house design team to bring their creative vision to life.

The collection uses four core materials: corrugated board, duotone kraft paper, premium art papers, and cotton. Each was chosen for its natural texture and ability to carry minimal branding without heavy ink use. White runs throughout as a nod to Scandinavian design and the brand's minimalist identity. Branding is applied only where it serves a purpose — the materials carry the rest.

The Filippa K system delivered on every requirement without trade-offs.

  • Recyclable materials: Post-consumer and FSC-certified content across every format, with no mixed-material constructions.

  • Fully recyclable: The entire system is designed for end-of-life recyclability.

  • Efficient construction: Pack formats are engineered to minimize transportation impact and material waste.

  • Custom sizing: Each format was engineered to Filippa K's product range, not adapted from a standard.

  • Resealable construction: Reduces return friction and single-use waste.

  • Luxury-minimalist design: Natural substrates and restrained branding replace ink and embellishment as the primary design tools.

Every format was designed to perform in transit, present well on arrival, and meet Filippa K's environmental standards. The result is packaging that extends the brand into the delivery experience while staying true to its material values.
